The Annual Heritage Fair’s purpose is to bring local heritage to the public through various regional heritage related groups gathering for a common cause. This event has multiple aspects that when brought together offer an engaging and educational experience for all ages.
In 1990, the Jonesborough Genealogical Society worked with the Washington County Public Library to establish a Genealogy and History collection at the Washington County Public Library - Jonesborough Branch.
Contains information on the history and archaeology of the Cherokee in the Watauga and Nolichucky River Valleys; biographies of the Cherokee people; history of Longhunters in the area; biographies of settlers in this time period; history of the government, law, and military, history of the area including four settlements: Holston, Watauga, Nolichucky and Carter’s Valley, as well as the Washington District / Washington County, North Carolina.
JGS's Early Settlers of Washington County, Tennessee Certificate Program recognizes the descendants of early settlers in Washington County from 1768 to 1840.
The Heritage Alliance and the Jonesborough Genealogical Society partnered together to create a beautiful specialty license plate for Historic Jonesborough.
Digging For Your Roots was a weekly column appearing on the Herald & Tribune newspaper's Genealogy & History page. The Herald & Tribune is a Jonesborough, TN newspaper that ran for 156 years.
The Digging For Your Roots column was written by Jonesborough Genealogical Society member volunteers as part of JGS's mission to promote, study, preserve, and document the family heritages of Jonesborough, Washington County, and Northeast Tennessee.
