For information on the establishment and operations of committees, see the Society's Bylaws, Article IV - Committees. Members of the Jonesborough Genealogical Society (JGS) can volunteer for a variety of committees:
The Program Committee is responsible for arranging and presenting programs at the regularly scheduled meetings and arranging for other events such as an open house, field trips, and workshops. To learn more about upcoming programs, visit our Calendar.
The Membership Committee is responsible for promoting membership to the Society, arranging the facilities for all activities of the Society, introducing visitors at meetings, and registering all attendees.
The Projects Committee is responsible for the Project List of the Jonesborough Genealogical Society, set a project leader for each project, and set yearly goals for each project. This committee can create, eliminate, or set inactivate any projects on the Project List with the approval of the Board.
The Heritage Fair Planning Committee is responsible for organizing and hosting the Annual Heritage Fair. Committee members may assist with activities such as coordinating local organizations and vendors, signage, marketing and promotion, information booths, and set-up/take-down on the day of the fair.
The Genealogy and History Collection was established at the Washington County Public Library - Jonesborough in a joint effort between JGS and the WCPL in 1990. Society members volunteer to organize, maintain, and digitize the collection as needed. Volunteers also host monthly Genealogy Help Nights at the library that are free and open to the public.
The Communications Committee is responsible for maintaining, updating, and generating content for the JGS website, blog, calendar, Digging for Your Roots column, Herald & Tribute feature stories, social media, and The Jonesborough Record members' newsletter.
